Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition
The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA), also known as Langkawi Air Show, which takes place every two years on the island of Langkawi in Malaysia, has become one of the world’s major air shows. The Langkawi Air Show will be held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Center, situated close to the Langkawi International Airport in Malaysia, from 4 to 8 December 2007. With the emphasis being on defense, some of the events will be exclusively for VIPs, trade visitors and uniformed personnel as well as the press, but many of the exciting exhibitions, aerial and aerobatic displays will be open to the public.
The Asia–Pacific region is proving to be one of the fastest growing markets in the defense and aerospace industry with an ever increasing international presence. The Langkawi Air Show serves as a platform for top level defense and government officials from all over the world to gather with the purpose of initiating business deals, forging partnerships and strengthening networks in the aerospace and defense industry. Exhibitors will be showcasing the very latest technology in networks-centric warfare equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, new generation aircraft, aerial reconnaissance platforms, aircrew training solutions and maintenance, repair and overhaul technologies, and more.
In 1991 Langkawi Island became the location for testing light and experimental aircraft due to the fact that aircraft could fly unhampered by heavy air traffic. Langkawi Air Show has grown to be rated as an air show that cannot be missed by anyone involved in the aerospace business and draws hundred of exhibitors and thousands of visitors. Reportedly, business contracts in excess of US$ 575 million were negotiated during the 2005 Langkawi Air Show.
The 2007 Langkawi Air Show will have additional exciting events that have never been featured before. These include “Cars and Bikes at LIMA ’07”, “LIMA ’07 Golf Challenge”, “LIMA ’07 Langkawi 10 Km Run” and “Gadgets at LIMA ’07”. Aerobatic displays by the Red Arrows, Thunder Birds, Blue Angel, Russian Knights and RMAF Aerobatic Team will be highlights of the event.
Previous air shows have proven to be very successful, both for exhibitors and visitors. There is every reason to believe that the 2007 Langkawi Air Show will be even better than ever before.
