Extra Aircraft to Unveil New Extra 300SHP at Oshkosh
Extra Aircraft’s newest aerobatic airplane, the Extra 300SHP, will be unveiled in the United States at this year’s EAA AirVenture Oshkosh to be held from July 24 – 30. The one of a kind aircraft was specifically designed for Goulian and will feature a 350HP Thunderbolt, Reno 580 engine. The EA-300SHP offers better aerobatic performance than its predecessor, the Extra EA-300S.
Cessna May Use Kit Building Trick in New Plane
After Cessna’s prototype for the light sport plane was received well by attendees at the AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh this year, the company is now thinking about how they may want to manufacture the plane. To keep it under their target price tag of $100,000, Cessna will have to minimize building costs and consider more innovative production methods. They’re even thinking about using a trick that homebuilders of kit planes have been doing for years. It’s called matched-hole drilling.
To the Moon, Alice, to the Moon
I know many people who save up their frequent flyer miles for something special, a “big trip” to somewhere. But a trip to the moon? That’s thinking big. Really big. Recently, Virgin Atlantic Airways formed a new subsidiary called Virgin Galactic. The company will provide commercial flights to the moon beginning in 2009. Tickets cost $200,000 each. (I wonder if they’ll ever offer one-way fares.)
So Long BWIA, Hello Caribbean Airlines
It doesn’t seem that long ago that I flew BWIA to and from the United States and Caribbean. To those not as familiar with the airlines, BWIA is the company’s acronym for British West Indies Airways and is pronounced bee-we. My memories are moldy or else times have changed, because apparently many passengers haven’t referred to the airline in fond terms for quite some time. Based in Trinidad, BWIA offers service to several Caribbean countries, New York, Washington D.C., Florida, and England.
Cessna Considering New Light Sport Aircraft
Cessna has recently announced they’re considering producing a new light sport aircraft, similar to the now-retired 152. They plan to display a full-scale version of the aircraft at this year’s Experimental Aircraft Association convention in Oshkosh. Cessna hopes that feedback from attendees will help them decide whether to proceed with development of the new aircraft.
