On the weekend of September 6th and 7th, the popular tourist resort of Southport will be hosting a fabulous air show. This year’s show will coincide with the RAF’s 90th anniversary, which means more flying, more spectacular displays and more fun for the whole family!

To be sure, the RAF will be celebrating its 90 years of superb aviation history with plenty of fanfare. In honor of this momentous event, there will be many more flying activities at this year’s Southport Air Show. This will include RAF Role Demonstrations by some of the Royal Air Force’s top military aircraft, such as a Chinook, a Sentry aircraft and a dazzling Tornado GR4 and Tornado F3. Not only is the Southport Air Show generally recognized as being the largest Air Show in the North West, but it enjoys one of the best settings. The show takes place over a magnificent little seaside town that is situated on the Irish Sea coast in Merseyside, England. This means spectators can pack up and head out to the beach where they can pick their little piece of beautiful coastline from where they can watch the show in comfort. The flying displays take place against beautiful coastal backdrops, and the location is easily reached from both Liverpool and Preston. Little wonder then that this annual event attracts as many as 150 000 spectators over the course of the two days that it is held. This year spectators can look forward to seeing the Red Arrows, the Black Cats Lynx helicopter Display, The Blades Aerobatic Team, as well as a whole host of military and civilian aircraft including helicopters and small jets. There will also be aerobatic and parachute displays, model aircraft, antique aircraft and more. The appearance of the RAF Beech King Air will no doubt be the highlight of the show.

At the Air Show Village there will be a wide variety of trade stands and interesting displays that will appeal to children and adults. Many of them will be educational and interactive, making learning fun. The Heritage Zone will provide a unique trip back in time, while microlight displays will give you ample opportunity to get close to these unusual light-weight aircraft and chat to their pilots. Hovercraft Trips will be available and should not be missed, while performances of the motorcycle team known as the Extreme Globeriders can be enjoyed throughout the day. So make the most of this spectacular event by making sure that you don’t miss out on the 2008 Southport Air Show!
