McGuire Air Expo – An Aviation Extravaganza

The McGuire Air Expo, which is set to take place on 31 May and 1 June 2008 at the McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, USA, promises aviation enthusiasts two days packed with thrilling entertainment. Home to the 305th Air Mobility Wing, as well as the 108th National Guard and 621st Contingency Response Wing, McGuire Air Force Base is located approximately 15 miles from Trenton in south Central New Jersey. The McGuire Air Expo offers an opportunity for the public to gain insight into the Air Force’s capabilities, while enjoying a great family outing.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be a highlight of the program on both days of the McGuire Air Expo. Six highly skilled pilots will put their red, white and blue jet fighters through an awe-inspiring hour-long demonstration of intricate maneuvers, reaching speeds of up to 500 mph with as little as three feet air space between each other. Audiences never fail to be amazed by the trademark Thunderbird six-plane delta formation, as well as the solo knife-edge pass and bomb burst.

Air Combat Command’s newest demonstration team, the F-15R Strike Eagle Team, based at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, will demonstrate the F-15E’s capabilities as a dual-role fighter designed to perform air-to-ground and air-to-air missions. State-of-the-art avionics and electronics systems enable the F-15E to fight day or night at low altitude and in all weather, with exceptional long-range capabilities. The F-15E Strike Eagle will perform a commemorative Heritage Flight alongside a P-51 Mustang and F-86 Sabre in a magnificent display of the past meeting the present, calling attention to the advances that have been made in aviation over the years.

Visitors to the McGuire Air Expo can expect to see impressive displays by the GEICO Skytypers, T-28 Herb and Ditto Smoke Ring Aerobatics and U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet. Driving the Air Force Reserve Jet Car in an incredible demonstration of ground speed, Scott Hammack accepts the challenge to race against an airplane flying overhead. Crowds will be astounded as to the outcome of the race – be sure not to miss it.In addition to all the action, visitors to the McGuire Air Expo can get up close to a number of static displays, including the C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft, the multi-task KC-10 Extender refueling and cargo aircraft, the KC-135R Stratotanker, a veteran B-25 and T-6A Texan II trainer. Visitors will also have access to the NASA Glenn Research Center Display, which focuses on the role of NASA in mankind’s quest for flight.
