This week, a judge sentenced the 21-year old student pilot who stole an airplane while on a drinking binge to one year in prison. The man had stolen the Cessna 172 from a flight school and flown it from Connecticut to New York with two 16-year olds as his passengers.

After the three-hour flight, when the plane was almost out of fuel, he landed it at closed Westchester County Airport. That’s when police caught up to him. Apparently, when they opened the cockpit doors, quite a few empty beer cans rolled out. He later claimed that he knew enough to fly the plane safely and didn’t intend to hurt anyone. Had he forgotten the part where you’re not supposed to fly while intoxicated?
