Question

hello every body,
I saw some documentary movie about air to air mission, when the pilot locked on the target then he will say fox#. So what is the meaning of "Fox"? can you tell me

Naval Aviator is the one to ask. I forget what he said he flew, but apparently he was a combat pilot.
