F-22 Vs. F-23

Were going way back here but from my understanding is the F-22 won the competition because:
A: It was less expensive
B: It was more easily upgradable
C: It was more maneuverable
D: It was made by Lockheed
E: And the "Fighter Mafia" wanted it.

I did hear the 23 was more stealthy but congress actually learning from that debacle in Vietnam thought it might be a good idea if the damn thing could turn and burn with the best of them.

But, yea the 23 looks way cooler though doesn it? ;-)

Thatches: You may be right on some point with all the rumors and for some reason the F-23 was kept more hush hush than the f-22 so we may never know the real reason although I have read some reports from congress on it the F-22 was a little less expensive in development at first but once the aircrafts got built there was a debate on which one acually would end up being cheaper. The F-22 was reported not to be as manuverable as the F-23 even thought it has thrust vectoring and the F-23 could turn and burn even the airforce geeks admit the GE jets were more powerfull than the pratt and whitney's and better suited for supercruise now the F-22 was a little more easily upgradable according to the report and you are right I think lockheed had the prefernce over northrop grumman even though both companies together have built the better fighter jets over the years with less accident but you know politics. The f-23 was also admiditly more advanced than the F-22 and there has been some talk that Northrop may have made it too advanced for its time, the F-23 also had a considerable range advantage over the F-22 to me they picked a good aircraft but didnt further the better one but the way it looks the F-22 is going to get cut to a worthless number anyway so its doesnt make any difference I guess I hope the F-35 is better than what most people say it is since we will have to depend on it for the future. Oh it also looks like the F-23 carried more weapons and was larger than the f-22.

I definatly agree with you the F-23 is the much better looking plane.

Contrary to what you have been saying about the F-23s manuverability Ive heard it was more manuverable becuase it is unstable and more agile (it also did not sport Thrust Vectoring) it was faster stealthier(which really shouldnt matter becuase getting caught in a rainstorm will make a stealth aircraft light up like a floodlight at midnight),it lost becuase mainly I believe it was a Northrop plane for all who do not know NorthropGrumman is the nations largest Naval Ship Contractor and by that alone brought it billions of revenue so the decision to buy the Lockheed plane was more of a money thing, And the Fighter Mafia is virtually non-existent now thats why the F-22 program is getting cut so viciously......

maybe we will all get lucky and congress with acually see the need for a good meduim ranger bomber and they will make an FB-23 I'd even be happy with an FB-22.
