But Airbus just might turn a profit on supporting this monstrosity for the next 50 years. It's going to need lots of suuport, and there are far more ways to recoup money than through the purchase price of the airplane.

although some people were involved in both programs, the Concorde was not constructed by airbus. and with an A380 with 550, you will be less packed together than on other airliners. |

Future
Airbus really had not choice but to launch the A380,as far too many customers want the 747 and with that boeing will always get a foot in the door. One of the major points was that the A380 was a major marketing tool, and since it has been released, Boeing had attempted to spoil the party on numerous occasions (sonic cruiser, 747-500 etc), only to fall flat on its face, and now with the 7E7, I think it is like the boy who cried wolf, no one wants to commit, especially with Noel Foegard telling them that the benefits will not be that great, (they will just stick the new engines on the A330).
The other point is that the fuel economy of the 7e7 will be compared to the A380, which should be the most efficient round when it comes out. The mjo point is that if your competitors are flying the A380, are getting more passengers, more income, more profit,a nd lower fares, the opposition will have to follow suite,just as it did with the 747. |

I think it'll be good for Boeing, and the entire industry.
Boeing has not had ANY true competition until airbus came around, and look now. Boeing's being forced to go to the practicle, economical, in numbers, etc. 7E7, and not the FAST, Cool looking, expensive, but hell it looks great ad boosts egos sonic cruiser. With the 747, there has been ZERO compitition for boeing. Now that there's some serious competition(the 777 doesn't count, for obvious reasons), maybe Boeing will re-structure in order to compete. With TWO companies trying to compete, except just one(airbus trying to out compete boeing, and not vice versa), we're going to see things change significantly. Southwest is a high profit airlines. They're also bare bones and simple. I can get a flight from NC to florida for $100 round trip--going through the airlines themselves. The fact that companies like priceline exist is testament to the inefficeincies in the airline industry----why can t the airline itself give the best price?? Because they're not set up the way southwest is, that's why. We're going to see most of the airlines move towards a SW type of buisness, if not, SW is going to spread so far, they will be THE airline. Competition among the manufacturers will work with competition between airlines to make air travel dirt cheap. Small things like the 7E7 will make regional travel cheaper, massive transports lke the ABA380 will make intercontinental travel cheaper. Hey, I'm bias. As an American, growing up with made in the USA planes, I want to see Boeing succede. I am glad that Airbus is lighting a fire under their rears though... |

The first time i saw the A380 on TV,i was excited and hoped to see it fly soon.It is coming true.I dont really care whether it is a boeing or an AIRBUS,i love planes too much to even care about the companies.There are certain things i like in boeing that i dislike in airbus,and certain things in airbus that i prefer to boeing.Both are different companies just doing their job by producing the best airplanes to accomondate the society of this world.With the A380,more passengers can fly at once which may save fuel and lower pollution by just a tiny fraction.THe tickets will definitely be higher.The 7e7 is one of my favourites as well.It has a distinct shape especially the tail fin which i like alot.Both airplanes will provide air travel.AIRBUS is from europe and boeing from america.It is good to see Europe doing something now.I cant stand seeing amercia being top in everything.Its time other nations do something about it

When Boeing were designing the 747, they had to comply with an FAA requirement that the aircraft had to be evacuated in 90 seconds (or in less than two minutes, I cannot remember the exact time). Boeing therefore were unable to preceed with a "double-decker" design like the A380. Has Airbus overcome this problem with the A380? If not then how will it be certified in the United States? Can you evacuate over five hundred people in a minute and a half? From a "double-decker" airliner?
