Airplane competitions
Competitions in aviation can vary from contests in aircraft to those concerning the design of aircraft. The most common type of aircraft competition is aerobatics. Aerobatics is the performance of stunts, for example loops and rolls, in an airplane. This exciting sport requires precise timing and speed as well as quick calculation.
Powered parachute competitions focus on a pilot’s skill at making precision maneuvers whilst flying at low altitudes. Maneuvers in these competitions include landing close to markings, taxing through a pylon course and the dead stick landing (the pilot turns the engine off at 300 feet and glides to land at a target).
A different type of competition is an aviation design competition. These competitions provide up and coming designers with an opportunity to showcase their work.
