ICAS Convention 2009

The ICAS Convention, or International Council of Air Shows, was inaugurated in 1967, and each year, show professionals get together at the convention to network amongst each other, plan upcoming air shows and to bounce new ideas off one another. It is expected that over 1 500 community member of the aviation industry will be in attendance, and will feature educational sessions, private concerts, workshops and banquets. The exhibition hall will offer thousands of air show related products and stands.

Selfridge Air Show 2009

Aviation enthusiasts will not want to miss the Selfridge Air Show on 22 and 23 August 2009. Visitors can expect to see a huge line-up of both static and aerial displays of military and civilian aircraft. Military displays include the legendary USAF Thunderbirds, USAF KC-135 Stratotanker, USAF A-10 Thunderbolt II, US Army CH-47 Chinook, USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon, USAF KC-10A Extender and the AFA Wings of Blue Prachute Team. Historic warbirds include an MIG-17 Fresco, Yankee Air Force B-25 Mitchell, Yankee Air Force C-47 Skytrain, T-6 Texan, T-2C Buckeye, F-86 Sabre and L-39 Albatros. Civilian participants include the Starfighters and Brett Hunter Pitts Freak. The show will start off with a special Launch Party on Friday 21 August – booking essential. Kid activities include a range of inflatable jumping castles and slides. Entrance and parking are free.

Colorado Sport International Air Show 2009

This family fun event features thrilling high performance aerobatics, top notch military flight demonstration and a trip down nostalgia lane as sturdy warbirds take to the skies. The program includes performances by Colorado Air National Guard, USAF Air Combat Command, USAF Academy Glider Team and solo aerobatic performers Don Nelson (Sukhoi-26), Randy Harris (Steen Skybolt) and Gary Rower (Stearman Bi-plane). Saturday night’s Barnstormers Ball gives spectators the opportunity to meet the Air Show peformers. Families will enjoy the KidSpace Activity Center, the Discovery Center, the Flight Deck and the Landing Zone.

As Austria finalizes plans for this year’s Air Power Air Show, airplane fans across the world are packing their bags and finalizing their travel arrangements. AirPower09 is set to be this year’s biggest European air show and it is a not-to-be-missed event.

Set to take place on June 26 and 27, 2009, Austria’s Air Power Air Show should be nothing short of spectacular. In previous years the show has set international standards, first with the birth of the Red Bull Air Race during AirPower03, and then with the EAC designating AirPower05 Europe’s best air show. Now, as arrangements for AirPower09 in Austria are given the finishing touches, fans of this prestigious event can prepare themselves to enjoy mind-blowing technology, wacky aircraft and breathtaking aerobatic displays.

The 2009 Austrian Air Show is set to take place at the Hinterstoisser Airbase in Zeltweg, Austria. The event is prepared by the Province of Styria, Red Bull and the Austrian Armed Forces, and the military display prepared by the Austrian Armed Forces is one of the highlights of the show. Not only does the show present an opportunity to wow crowds with the country’s military might, speed and skill, but it also shows how this aspect of the military can be used to provide protection and aid to the international community. Indeed, it seems that the role played by the Austrian Armed Forces in the maintenance of peace both at home and abroad will be a key theme of the airshow.

With an estimated 250 000 visitors making their way to the airbase to enjoy the event, the program certainly isn’t limited to only military aircraft. An incredibly diverse array of aircraft has been planned for AirPower09, from antique tri-planes to super-sleek combat jets. The air displays promise to thrill and excite, with some of the best military aerobatic teams from around the world scheduled to participate. Jones Beach Air Show 2009

Located on the south shore of Long Island, New York State, the Jones Beach State Park is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast of the United States and is a popular family oriented leisure venue. On the Memorial Day Weekend (23 and 24 May 2009), the Jones Beach Air Show will once again showcase the skill of pilots and the capabilities of their aircraft to appreciative spectators gathered on the more than six miles of sandy beach.

This exciting annual event was established in 2004 and has grown in popularity each year, with a combined total of over 400,000 people attending the 2008 two-day event. Confirmed military acts for the 2009 Jones Beach Air Show include the legendary USAF Thunderbirds, US Army Golden Knights, CAF Snowbirds, a demo of the F-18F Super Hornet, an A-10 East Coast Demo, the A-10/P-51 Heritage Flight and the 106th Air National Guard. The USAF Thunderbirds perform aerobatic formations and solo flying stunts, touring the United States as well as other parts of the world. Although the Thunderbirds are essentially an air demonstration squadron, the highly trained pilots and their state-of-the-art aircraft can quickly be adapted as a fighter unit should the need arise.

Civilian pilots showcasing their aerobatic talents include John Klatt, Sean tucker, Matt Chapman and David Windmiller. Using a fleet of five aircraft, the Geico Skytypers will demonstrate their incredible teamwork as they “type” a message across the sky using eco-friendly vapor. The Yankee Air Museum will introduce the B-17 “Yankee Lady” to spectators and Warbirds Over Long Island will highlight aviation history with a fly-past of World War II airplanes. Experienced combat and air show pilot, Bill Reesman, will put his Red Bull MiG 17F through its paces, with Red Bull team-mates Kirby Chambliss and Chuck Aaron also being highlights on the program. Flying his Air Force Reserve Biplane, pilot Ed Hamill will astound spectators with his skill.

The program starts at 10:00 am each day and, for security reasons, visitors will be subject to a search. Spectators are advised to dress in beach attire, bring along their deck chairs, sunglasses and plenty of sun-block as they enjoy five hours of thrilling stunts at the Jones Beach Air Show.

The Central Texas Airshow 2009 – A Weekend of Fun and Excitement

The Central Texas Airshow is set to take place 2-3 May 2009 in Temple, Texas, and everyone is invited. This popular airshow has been running for 22 years under the management of the Georgetown Pilot’s Association and, as with previous events, much of the proceeds will be donated to charity. The 2009 recipients will be the Children’s Miracle Network, an organization raising funds for children’s hospitals.

It is the goal of the Central Texas Airshow to promote aviation education relating to both civilian and military aircraft, by highlighting the progress that aviation has made from the early days of flight right through to the high-tech marvels of modern aircraft. The younger generation is encouraged to follow a career in aviation, either military or civilian. While many automatically link aviation with being a pilot, there are many facets to an aviation career and the Central Texas Airshow will open up the fascinating world of aviation to those who are interested.

Visitors to the Central Texas Airshow can expect two days packed with fun and excitement. The Aeroshell Aerobatic Team will show their expertise in the sky as the four pilots put their T-6 aircraft through their paces. Flying these World War II North American Advance Trainers, powered by 600 HP Pratt and Whitney engines, the four highly skilled pilots perform some heart-stopping maneuvers.

On a more light-hearted note, Mike “Spanky” Gallaway, who is new to the Central Texas Airshow, will carry out a series of tumbles, snaps and rolls in his modified bright red Pitts S-1 T. Paul Fiala, flying his bright yellow Great Lakes, will take spectators back to the crazy barn-stormer days when pioneering acrobatic pilots made history and put airshows on the map.

Also flying solo will be Captain Paul Brown, who will showcase the mind-boggling capabilities of his A-10 Thunderbolt II which he has nicknamed the ‘warthog’. This twin-engine jet aircraft was designed to be used against ground targets, including armored vehicles. The Blastards and EOD from the Commemorative Airforce will present a tribute to Vietnam Veterans as well as a pyrotechnics display.

These are just some of the many performances spectators can look forward to at the Central Texas Airshow. There will also be static displays, food vendors, picnic spots and more, so be sure not to miss this family fun event.
