Student Readers Rewarded with Airplane Ride
Grade school book reading clubs have reached a new height-literally. Third graders at a Naples, Florida elementary school who read more than 100 books by a certain date earned a free airplane ride in a single engine Cessna aircraft. Many of those who earned the short ride in the plane experienced flight in a small aircraft for the first time.
In addition, all of the kids were taken on a field trip to the Naples Municipal Airport for a tour sponsored by the school's Parent Teacher Organization and the Naples' Young Eagles. As part of the tour, all of the schoolchildren had a chance to sit in the cockpit of the small airplane. It's hoped by all involved that the airport tour and plane ride has motivated children to read more as well as sparked their interest in aviation.
