The revolutionary new Air Zoo is a dream come true for the average airplane buff. The massive facility is home to more than 35 aircraft and exhibits – many of which feature interactive experiences that simply blow the lid off a trip to a normal airplane museum.

The Air Zoo is situated right next to the Flight Education Research Center and visitors are allowed to tour the Research Center as part of your trip to the Zoo. This special blend of fun and education makes for an especially interesting and interactive visit – one that is not readily forgotten. Lovers of older aircraft will delight in the chance to get up close and personal with the Hellcat, the Bearcat, the Tigercat and the Wildcat. These are just a few of the expertly restored airplanes that can be found at the Zoo. The full-motion flight simulators are not for the faint-hearted and the 4-D theater provides a slightly more sedate look into the world of aircraft. A small indoor amusement park offers a variety of aviation-orientated rides and the entire experience will take you to the skies in a number of very different ways. And, once you’ve worked up an appetite, the Kitty Hawk CafĂ© is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat.

The Air Zoo is located in Kalamazoo which is roughly halfway between Detroit and Chicago. Admission is fairly pricey – just under $20 for adults and just over $15 for children under the age of 15 – but it’s definitely good value because the price includes all rides, theaters and simulators as well as admission to the Zoo and the Research Center. Visitors can also get an individual or family membership which provides unlimited access for one year to the museum and the Center’s comprehensive research library.

Michigan’s Air Zoo is no ordinary airplane museum and the experience is a memorable journey through aviation history and the mechanics of flight for both young and old. So start making plans today to visit this awesome aviation-orientated facility and enjoy a never-to-be-forgotten experience.
