LAX Restaurant with Airplane Theme

The next time you have a layover at Los Angeles International Airport, check out the Proud Bird restaurant located right under the final approach path on Aviation Boulevard. You’ll find the entrance near the half-dozen or so World War II fighter planes. Inside, the walls are lined with historic aviation photos. Banquet rooms, including the Doolittle Room and the Tuskegee Ballroom accommodate several hundred people for special events. Imagine having your wedding ceremony held on the Red Baron Patio! Request a window seat and watch the jets land at LAX.

Aerospace Museum is Restoring a Curtiss JN-4D Bi-Plane - Airplanes

The Niagara Aerospace Museum has hired the Niagara Frontier Vintage Aircraft Group to restore a rare World War I airplane that they have recently acquired. Known better by its nickname “Jenny,” the Curtiss JN-4D was manufactured by The Curtiss Factory in Buffalo, New York in 1918 for military flight training. Though close to 5,000 of the aircraft were produced, only 37 of them remained by 1937.

Boeing to Sell C-17 Cargo Airplanes to Australia

The U. S. Defense Department has approved the sale to Australia of up to four Boeing C-17 cargo planes, up to four AN/AAQ-24 infrared countermeasures systems (manufactured by Northrop Grumman), and up to 18 F-177 Pratt & Whitney engines. The deal is worth up to two billion dollars. It will not be final until Congress approves, though it is expected to happen.

Mooney Unveils New Airplane

Mooney will deliver the first of their new M20 TN Acclaim in the fourth quarter of 2006, their first new plane in more than ten years. The single-engine aircraft cruises at 230 knots, the fastest Mooney plane ever produced. It has a ceiling of 25,000 feet, but can exceed 200 knots even at a lower cruising altitude of 10,000 feet. This makes the Acclaim the fastest airplane in its class.
