It’s Healthier to Fly than Drive
I don’t like to write about airplane crashes. For one thing, they’re depressing. I also don’t like to write about them because too many people out there are already afraid of flying, and I don’t want to add to their anxiety. Flying, in my opinion, is one of the most fun things you can do. Another reason I don’t write about plane crashes is because dying in one is much less likely to happen than dying in a car crash, so again, why alarm people?
The Day I Bought Orville and Wilbur's Wright Flyer
I have no idea how many versions of the Monopoly game exist, but when I saw they have a Century of Flight "Aviation" Monopoly version available, well, I just had to have it. The only problem was finding others to play it with me. I think my excitement about an aviation version of Monopoly scared them. They know how competitive I can be, and sometimes, well, sometimes I forget it’s just a game. It took some convincing that I wouldn’t stomp my feet in victory or get sullen if I started losing.
Taking Off with MS Flight Simulator X
I’ve decided to go for my instrument rating so I’m in the process of upgrading my Microsoft flight simulator software and hardware. Okay, I admit it - it’s just an excuse to buy some new toys. At least, it started out that way.
Best Seat in the Plane
A friend of mine has very definite seat requirements when she flies commercially. A nervous flyer, she wants to know which seats offer the best chance of survival in an airplane crash. She also wants easy access to the lavatory and hates the window seat because it reminds her that she’s 35,000 feet above the ground.
Flying Solo for the First Time
I was terrified to take my first solo flight a few years ago. Sure, I worried about my personal safety, but mostly I was afraid of embarrassing myself. What if I bent the airplane? I thought of all the students before me who had managed to keep it in one piece. Leave it to me to make the Big Mistake. Death would have almost been preferable.
