Fuel Inerting Rule Issued by US FAA
The new fuel inerting rule that is about to be instated by the US FAA may have a number of airlines grumbling about cost, but it can also potentially save thousands of lives. The rule will require US airlines to retrofit as many Boeing and Airbus passenger aircraft as possible, at a cost of about $150,000 to $400,000 per aircraft over a period of seven years.

NASA Commissions Study on Impact of Advanced Aircraft
Earlier this week NASA awarded a $12 million grant to two companies who are to study the impact that a variety of new aircraft have on the nation’s air traffic control system. The two companies, Raytheon and Sensis, have each received $6 million contracts to conduct the necessary research.
Biofuel Research Led by Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney Canada recently announced that it was heading up an aerospace industry-university research effort designed to investigate which biofuels might be potentially used to power small and medium sized aircraft engines. The decision comes in the wake of the new UK biofuel policy review and should ultimately help to prove the feasibility of using biofuels to power aircraft.
Bombardier Unveils New Eco-Friendly Plane
Canadian plane maker Bombardier recently announced its plans to launch a new aircraft – the eco-friendly CSeries single-aisle passenger jet. The fuel-efficient jet will be launched in 2013 and will no doubt prove to be in big demand with oil prices currently crippling a number of airlines.
