First F-35 STOVL Aircraft Has Successful First Flight
Just recently the first F-35B STOVL aircraft took to the skies for its first successful test flight. The short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) jet took off from the Fort Worth Naval Air Station in Texas on June 12 and the flight lasted about 45 minutes. The test aircraft was piloted by test pilot Graham Tomlinson and the flight marked the second stage in the development of the next-generation of fighting aircraft.
Hungarian International Air Show and Military Display
Aviation enthusiasts in Hungary are no doubt thrilled at the news that the Hungarian International Air Show and Military Display will take place on 16 to 17 August 2008 at the Kecskemet Air Base. Usually a biennial (every two years) event, which should only take place again in 2009, this special edition of the Hungarian International Air Show and Military Display is in honor of the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Hungarian Air Force and the 160th anniversary of the Hungarian Armed Forces.
C-130 AMP H2 Completes 100th Flight
Ever since Boeing was awarded the AMP contract in 2001, they have been hard at work ensuring that the military’s C-130 fleet meets the required standards. It would certainly seem that they are successful in reaching this goal as the company was able to announce that the H2 aircraft completed its 100th flight on 9 June 2008. This is the halfway milestone in the H2’s flight-test program and it would seem that the aircraft is ahead of its development schedule.
Supersonic Jet Market Booming
They may be well beyond the scope of the average businessman, but supersonic business jets are fast becoming hot property. With the ever-increasing demand for fast business jets, the market for small supersonic jets has exploded. Most of the major aircraft companies are gearing up for the demand by developing their own range of small super-fast jets and, despite massive price tags, it would seem consumers are lining up to purchase them.
