Plane Spotting – A Great Hobby for Aviation Enthusiasts
Aircraft Spotting (also known as Plane Spotting) is a hobby that unites aviation enthusiasts from all over the world. Aircraft spotters enjoy the observation and photography of a wide variety of aircraft, including fixed wing airplanes, helicopters, gliders, microlights, airships and large balloons. Aircraft spotting generally includes keeping a log of what has been spotted, where it was seen and the date and time of the sighting, as well as any other observations, such as the engine sounds and number of vapor trails the aircraft leaves.
FAA Mandates Black Box Upgrade
Usually orange in color to make it easier to find in the event of a crash, the Black Box, containing a cockpit voice recorder and digital flight data recorder, has proven invaluable in analyzing the cause of many airplane disasters. Some nine years after the National Transportation Safety Board put forth recommendations for the improvement of the Black Box, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) is mandating that existing equipment be replaced with more up-to-date technology.
A Look at the Embraer Phenom 100
Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer is set to challenge an increasingly crowded marketplace with its Very Light Jet (VLJ), the Embraer Phenom 100. It is anticipated that the availability of the Phenom 100 in mid-2008 will open up the convenience of luxury private jet ownership to a broader customer base.
