Kuala Lampur International Airport - Sepang
The Kuala Lampur International Airport is situated in Sepang and was designed by Kisho Kurokawa. It is still relatively new, having being built in 1998 and is not far from Sepangs F1 racing track. The airport was built as part of efforts to compete with the air transport hubs in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore and so you can be sure of great service and excellent facilities when you set off for the Kuala Lampur International Airport. The airport is thus fairly large and makes use of the latest technology to ensure the best standards possible. The main building features steel hyperbolic paraboloid shells which span a distance of 38.4 m.
When you arrive at the airport you will find that there is only one terminal. This terminal features several boarding gates as well as a contact pier and a satellite. The pier and satellite are connected by the Aerotrain which runs between the two every couple of minutes. Apart from a nice, neat runway, the airport also has great restaurants and snack bars where you can satisfy your appetite. Both western and Asian foods are available. Other facilities include a post office, baby changing facilities, a 24-hour clinic, pharmacies and an emergency sick bay. If you need to leave baggage behind, you can make use of the coin-operated lockers which are available in the satellite building. If you need them, there are fax machines and internet access available. There are also a wide variety of shops where you can while away some time if you have to wait for a bit. There is an exchange bureau for those who need to change cash, as well as ATMS and banks in the main building.
People with disabilities are well catered for as there are a number of ramps, lifts and appropriate toilets available throughout the building. The Kuala Lampur International Airport also enjoys good transportation facilities as you can catch a taxi, arrange for someone to pick you up by car, make use of the express rail between the airport and the Kuala Lampur’s central station or by catching the bus. For those driving themselves there is plenty of parking available at the airport.
